Around here, you really cannot let your cats outside. There are too many predators - coyote, hawk, great horned owl, bobcat. It's dangerous. Sadly, we lost a cat many years ago, our adored Tweety. She got out one night, never to be seen again. :(
We have a neighbor that has cats. They live in their garage, and prowl the neighborhood. They keep them primarily to rid their property of rodents - pack rats and ground squirrels, that can tunnel and cause damage. People that find cats just drop them off at my neighbors. I cannot say that I agree with this philosophy. (These are the same neighbors who have no qualms about leaving their dogs outside barking either....)
One of their current cats is all black, and semi-feral (wild). When he was a few months younger, he took up residence in our garage for a while, and was very afraid of humans. Now he's older, and he's on the prowl. Because he is all black, he stands a good chance of surviving longer term. I hope he does. He's very cute! And still scared of me.

That looks spookily like a cat which is "visiting" our back garden at night, here in the UK.
Forgot to say, I have had a look at your products on Etsy and you have some really beautiful things there - a real talent.
We seem to be the people in the neighborhood that take in all the stray cats,5 right now. :/ If they come in as kittens then they are inside only but sometimes they show up half feral and we get them spayed and vaccinated but can't keep them inside. Occasionally one will transition in though. Yea, I'm definitely on course to become a crazy cat lady.
Oh - it looks like you live in the same neighborhood my daughter does - with the same predator problems. I've seen coyotes run right across the road in front of the car - and at night, it is SO dark there because this is not a place of streetlights - it's so beautiful, and kinda spooky. I winced as I read this, even as my idiot pups are out there swearing at someone riding a bike in the street - oh - wait. It's the meter reader. Oh dear.
The black cat looks adorable up the tree. what a shame that cats have to watch out for so many predators where you are, I hope he stays safe.
Kitty kitty!
(we have trouble keeping cats around here too.)
