2012 - A Year of Possibility

Happy 2012!

I cannot remember ever before being faced with a year as wide-open as this. Or should I say - welcomed.

A year of possibility.........

The old job is gone. Do I want to continue in that field?
Unemployment brings with it a clean slate. What do I want to do? What can I do? What do I want to be when I grow up? :)

One son is gone, mostly. Moving forward in his life.
One son is also moving forward, changing day by day.

It's time to make plans. Make lists. Organize.

I'm ready.

Just a few scenes from the desert this morning.

Hoping the pumpkins keep growing, but as the heat builds, not sure....

Buster sees something outside the gate.....probably bunnies....

Rosemary grows like crazy under this tree.

Flowers in the island. Some thrive, some don't. This winter, I'm going to use this island to grow lettuce.

Behind Buster is oleander. Also known as nightshade. Beautiful, but poisonous. Deadly to humans, dogs, horses. We've let a lot of it die, and have pulled some out. It can grow to 12' or better. Hard to pull out such a beautiful plant, so some still are here.

Sugar wants to go swimming. Yup, we have a pool. Lots o'work. Lots o'fun.

Things are growing in the garden!

When we lived back east, we had a H U G E veggie garden. The kids were little, and we'd go pick fresh green beans for dinner, and eat them raw, after rinsing them with the garden hose.

Since we've lived in the H O T desert, I haven't had much luck with veggies. So this year, I'm trying something new. We have a small courtyard (my office window looks out onto it) that gets both sun and lots of shade. I've planted a bunch of veggies - tomatoes, squash, carrots, pepper, and also parsley and basil. In POTS, not in the ground. It's easy to water, and hopefully the veggies won't burn in the baking sun. Also hoping the birds and bunnies don't get to them all.
