Harris Hawk

He's back again. He likes to sit in my tree, just outside my window.

According to Wikepedia, this hawk can be anywhere from 18 to 30 inches tall, and generally have a wingspan of 3.6 feet.

The biggest bird that usually sits in our trees is a woodpecker, maybe 7 inches tall.

This hawk is huge. And he is a predator. He eats mice, cats, small dogs....

A raptor.

Watch out!

Don't worry Emily! I never leave my dogs outside without being there with them. Except for teddy, who would be happy being outside all day, if I let him. !

I was photographing a large hawk on my back deck railing when all of a sudden right before my eyes, he swooped up a little bird and flew away..leaving a trail of blood on my deck...I was in shock for a few minutes. I guess it is survival of the fittest ;-(

I recently saw a large hawk pick a bird off the little bird feeder outside my window! He was white and brown and just under 2 feet tall...and I live in the middle of the city! I wonder if all the people keeping chickens in the city now, is drawing them in?
